Michael Jones, a young gay artist and part-time hooker, will do anything to stage his first exhibition. When he falls in love with rich financier Jack Hutchinson, he seems set to achieve his goal. But as Michael becomes caught between the unforgiving territory of smoky-bar Hackney and the green-garden luxury of upper class London, the consequences of his uncompromising pursuit leave him having to fight for all he holds dear, and in the only way he knows how.
A Dangerous Man edition by Anne Brooke Literature Fiction eBooks
The horrors of an abusive childhood, great trauma, or just the loss of a good friend or family member can make mental and physical changes that lurk below the surface barely contained by their personal controlling mechanism. Often with time the memories fade and remain benign until a triggering mechanism releases the built up fury in an uncontrolled reaction, often aimed at innocent people nearby because the true cause has has been festering inside even if the instigator is long gone. This action really should not be held against the one expressing violence and destruction, but the real instigators are usually long gone or not identifiable to punish them. How can someone who died years ago be held responsible for the damage done? So instead of trying to help the victims of this abuse, we jail them for doing what they were taught to do, and punish them for the rest of their lives. This book digs into the mind of a victim as he tries to maintain control of the past buried in his subconscious and the current events swirling around him as he seeks the one thing that will fix everything. As always seems to happen, there lurks another person with enough similarities to Michael's father that the caged and tortured animal finally breaks out of his cage and lashes uncontrollably at everything blocking his escape from his haunted past and miserable present. Parts of the story may not make sense to the reader, but this is a very good look at the outward life and inward thoughts of someone whose life is unraveling inside even as things seem to get better on the outside.
The sad thing about this book is that all of us probably know a few people like Michael who struggle with even simple tasks and have difficulty focusing on activities. This does not mean that they are bad or violent, but maybe need a friend to talk to and keep the wild animal inside. They often need guidance and counseling even if they do not think so. You probably also know a child or teenager who might be suffering from abuse, physical, mental, emotional, or combinations thereof. Report suspected abuse, regardless of age. Battered women and elder abuse happen frequently. A battered man is less common, but it happens.
This book is now firmly planted in your head. Take action with your heart to help prevent the reactions when things snap. Reporting is usually anonymously, but you will know what you have done to help. Thanks,

A Dangerous Man edition by Anne Brooke Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I cannot even begin to believe this book. It was so intense and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Michael was so freaking nuts!!! I wish his back story was made more clear though. And the ending was just so depressing after all the turmoil throughout the book.
"Looking back on it now and for his sake only, we should never have met."
This was definitely a dark and disturbing story. It has garnered mixed responses from those who have read it. Most seem to rate it highly but others have found it too uncomfortable. It is definitely hard to say you 'like' it.
It is not an easy book to read and I found the ending painful and unexpected. It is a depressing story although very thought provoking. Should you read it? I'd say yes but be prepared for an emotional read without a happy ending.
I won't say more, there have been enough reviews written that go into depth. I would recommend checking out Kazza's review on Goodreads for some more insight into the story.
A gorgeously written, tense and creepy book, combining a love story and an artist's passion for his work into a force that makes the narrator of the book a very dangerous man. Not for those who like their fiction fluffy, this is a real work of literature.
Alex Beecroft, author of Captain's Surrender
I was quickly drawn into this compelling story with its menacing undertones. I think that menace was the thing I loved most about it. Maybe I could have done without the forewarnings as we went along. The end felt inevitable. YET, it wasn't quite the end I expected. I really enjoyed it. Super characterization, a plot that worked, some fascinating secondary characters and a brilliantly drawn narrator. One I'd read again, even knowing how it ended.
I don't think I'll ever recover. This was the most traumatizing book I've ever read. I feel terrible. I won't summarize the story or write about character development. I'll just say you should read this book but be prepared to feel worn down, exhausted from being in Michael's mind, feeling all his desperation, paranoia and poor choices, from the anguish I feel for what could have been for him and Jack. For poor Jack. This story felt so real to me. I know there are people out there who have been abused, who have had their trust for someone who should have protected them ripped away, who have had to resort to a horrible life of giving themselves away just to survive, who are desperate, who have little boxes in their head where they store all the things they don't want anyone to know about, who have turned attention from someone kind into what they think is love but it's just desperation. I could go on. There are people like that. You'll meet one in this story and he will make you cry, make you hold your breath in anticipation, make you worry, make you scared, make you angry. But most of all he will make you wish that you had reached out to someone who needed help. Emotional help. These people are hurt, and they can be dangerous, but even if they act like they don't want your help, they do, they need it.
Being in Michael's head has left me anxious and depressed. It's not a good feeling. I was actually scared to turn pages in my for fear of what would come next. When a book makes you feel that way you know you've read a story that will never leave you. I'm going to go cry now.
